When that special someone touches the Orb:

You see a great city. Spires made of steel and glass stretch to the sky. It is laid out like a great wheel, and it sits on an island in an un-named sea. Strange craft travel through the skies above the city. It is a place of technological and mystical wonder.

The city comes under attack by unspeakable things from beyond the stars. These creatures, known only as the Great Old Ones, claim the Earth as their own, and see this city as all that could possibly oppose their reclamation of it.

In desperation, the greatest techno-wizards of the City come together to create a way to fight the Old Ones. First they create great beasts to oppose their enemies, but the beasts are too easily turned to the Old Ones' side. So they are placed in a deep sleep and scattered across the globe. A new tactic is tried. Great machines, shaped like giant men, are constructed. Volunteers from the city willingly give up their bodies, joining their very souls to these constructs. But the machines prove to be too inflexible in their battles with the Old Ones. The Techno-Wizards finally create an object of great power. The pinaccle of their achievments.

The Orb. After the creation of The Orb, Beings of great power begin to arise among humanity. Men and Women with the ability to bend the laws of physics, defy the bounds of gravity, generate incredible energies. The come together as the City's champions, defying the Old Ones and driving them back. The war culminates in a titanic battle...the Old Ones are driven back beyond the veil, but the energies unleashed destroy the City, sinking it beneath the waves. Surprisingly, much of the population survives. Some use their own means to adapt to life beneath the waves. Others go to the stars, leaving Earth in great rocket ships. Some simply scatter around the world, teaching the people they encounter, seeking to ressurect their great city. The City's champions likewise scatter across the world, traveling mostly in groups. They come to be worshipped in many cultures as gods and great heroes. And The Orb itself is lost to the far reaches of the Earth. Many times over the centuries, it will be rediscovere and lost again, until finally,it comes into your hands.
